Blackout Plate
A Blackout license plate may be issued for a passenger vehicle, motorcycle, or truck registered for 20,000 lbs. to any owner or lessee of an eligible vehicle type with a Kansas title and registration. This is a royalty fee plate with the $50 fee supporting the license plate replacement fund for the division of vehicles.
To qualify for this plate, you must:
- Be a Kansas resident.
- Have a qualifying vehicle titled in Kansas in your name, or have a vehicle titled in your leasing company’s name with your listed as the lessee.
Steps to obtain the plate:
- Make an application for the Blackout plate at your local county treasurer’s motor vehicle office.
- Proof of valid insurance must be presented at the time of application, along with a current registration or proof of ownership if a newly purchased vehicle along other required documents for an ownership change.
- If this plate is replacing another currently issued license plate for your vehicle, the old plate must be surrendered with the application for this plate.
- Pay applicable fees for plate issuance.
Fee for Blackout plate:
- There is a $50.00 Blackout plate fee, a $40 special/distinctive plate fees, along with standard registration fees, property taxes, and service fees when the plate is issued. Personalization of the plate is possible with an additional charge for the personalized on top of all other fees.
